An old University Project becoming reality -Thamesmed regenaration

RIBA Journal re doing piece on Thamesmead and its regeneration. This piqued my interest as when I was a student at Greenwich studying by Diploma in Architecture and Urban Design,

Thamesmead was a major project for us to work upon, where we learnt about the psychology of urban spaces, how people imagine, remember and view the places they visit and live in, and more advanced concepts such as Space Syntax Analysis.

Numerous concept were produces within our atelier groups, some quite extreme such as removing the river wall, allowing the area to flood and creating islands of villages connected by bridges and canals.

Our group went for a more piecemeal approach, based on a interwoven areas of residential, commercial, recreation and small craft based industry, like a tartan quilt of urban layout.
